Looking to finally land your dream job? It's now 2022 and this is YOUR year. So go ahead and read on how to land your dream job. Before even applying to your dream job, you need to have a target company in mind. Now before you apply with this company...you want to make sure you have the best opportunity to land an interview. And the tool that helps you do that is your resume!

Here’s how you can refresh your resume to land your dream job:

1. Focus on information relevant to your target job
This is the most important step. You want to keep any info from your old job that applies to your next job. If you were a fast-food worker trying to work as a tech salesperson, you would highlight people and sales skills. In this case, it's best to mention how you resolved customer conflict and how many people you served. You can also mention times you promoted a product/deal and how many people purchased. Doing this ensures you highlight your sales skills. Get specific with quantities, timeframes, and dollar values.

Remember that you are free to delete any info that doesn't add value to your resume. If you already worked for 10 to 15 years, you don't need to include your education background in depth. Your work experience will be more than enough!

2. Proofread and then proofread again
A lot of job seekers neglect this step. Again, the resume is all about making a first impression. You don't want to hurt your chances at a dream job because your resume was hard to read. While you edit your resume, take the time to print it and read it aloud. You'll find that some errors magically appear! Common resume errors include misspellings, extra spaces, formatting issues, or wrong dates. Once you take the time to slow down, these errors are quick fixes! It's ok if you don't know how to edit though because the next point will help!

3. Don't be afraid to seek professional help
It's ok to bring in the expert if updating your resume seems frustrating. Job seekers from all walks of life have this experience. Career coaches can help whether you're fresh out of school or looking for a new opportunity after years of working.

4. Don't lie
This is an underrated step in refreshing your resume. There are some people that stretch the truth while writing their resume. People may do this unintentionally but sabotage their chances of getting an offer. There are horror stories where candidates lied and hiring managers put them to the test. Managers have the right to call references and continue interviews in another language. Remember that anything you put on the resume is fair game for HR or a manager to ask you about. Don't put yourself in an embarrassing situation because you got desperate. Honesty is the best policy and any employer will appreciate you telling the truth.
