Sr. Communicatins Analyst
Brief Description
Performs highly complex duties in the design, development, installation, integration, administration and maintenance of local/wide area data network infrastructure; manages and optimizes network performance and interoperability to enable department customers to accomplish their business requirements and service objectives; develops and administers corporate network security policies and ensures against network intrusions.

Detailed Description
  • Serves as administrator for a large, complex, multi-segment network infrastructure. Designs, develops, installs, integrates, and maintains the network physical infrastructure incorporating multiple technologies and protocols. Installs, configures, and integrates network hardware, software, and devices, including servers, hubs, routers, switches, communications systems, cabling and other wiring equipment. Diagnoses and resolves network connectivity and other communication issues. Establishes network standards, including naming conventions and address protocols, monitor, analyzes, and manages all network traffic and other conditions to achieve optimal performance and uptime; analyzes data to minimize network congestion.
  • Analyzes network capacity and growth requirements and recommends network upgrades and enhancements to meet long-term Business unit needs; manages and participates in the installation of network upgrades and conversions; develops and recommends network contingency and disaster recovery plans; develops specifications for network hardware, software and cabling upgrades and enhancements; participates with the systems administration team to evaluate and recommend network and systems hardware and software.
  • Serves as network security administrator, including administering the firewall rule base; monitors for network intrusions; develops, recommends, implements and enforces the corporate network security policy and remote access standards and guidelines.
  • Utilizing detailed scripts and procedures, makes programming changes on a large, complex network communications switch systems to add, move and/or modify of communication users, equipment, lines and automated services; maintains system databases on the physical locations; descriptions, access privileges and routing protocols for all communications users and services. Coordinates performing the more complex system administration tasks with manager, vendor and/or Information Systems staff.
  • Performs project leadership functions for network installation projects; plans and manages large migration and conversion projects; develops and recommends cabling and connectivity standards, uses and levels.
  • Consults with customers regarding network, connectivity and data communication needs and requirements; researches and presents technology alternatives; evaluates and tests vendor products for conformance with customer requirements and ONEOK, Inc. standards; recommends the selection and purchase of hardware and software.
  • Evaluates and recommends software, tools and utilities to aid in automated monitoring and management of network performance; develops and maintains network documentation and reference tools.
  • Performs installation, maintenance and configuration to add devices to the network for general business and specialized technical applications; sets up and installs communications devices in accordance with established protocols.
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting on network hardware, software and connectivity problems; performs second and third level problem resolution.
  • Provides expert advice and assistance to other IT staff on difficult and complex network and communication issues; serves as technical advisor on network design, interoperability and installation issues to other IT staff and to department customers; coordinates work with other staff having data management, database administration, applications administration and systems administration to ensure that network functionality is consistent with all information technology strategies.
  • Monitors trends and developments in systems, networking and multi-platform communication technologies; consults with vendors and other sources on industry and product direction, functionality and capabilities.
  • Assists in managing ONEOK, Inc. relationships with equipment suppliers and local/long distance service providers to ensure telecommunications requirements and reliability standards are met; monitors procedures for troubleshooting and resolving user problems and complaints; evaluates results of regular system audits and capacity/utilization checks; periodically evaluates the competitiveness of vendor and provider cost structures.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, MIS, Computer Science, other related discipline, or an equivalent combination of formal education and the following job related experience:
  • Experience developing, integrating and managing the interoperations of the Local Area and Wide area network systems to provide an efficient, stable, reliable infrastructure needed for effective operations and sharing of applications and information to both internal and external customers. Experience developing network standards and policies, researching technology alternatives and plans for expansion of network capacity to support meeting company mission, goals and operational requirements.
  • Experience locating, tracing, and resolving complex problems in all types of data network systems and equipment.
  • Experience applying established practices, procedures, and principles of electrical and electronic circuitry to particular problems, conditions, and service needs.
  • Application of math, algebra, and statistics.
  • Experience in the use of equipment, tools, media and other material in constructing, servicing, installing, and repairing data communications systems, facilities, and equipment.
  • Experience in preparing scripts and databases applicable to programming and administering data communication system applications.
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical manuals and documents, training material, company policies and procedure, schematic diagrams, sketches, drawings, and oral and written instructions.
  • Experience composing and preparing reports such as network utilization, expense reports, network documentation, diagrams and sketches.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and write fluently in English.

Additional Details
Certification/Licensing
  • Applicable driver's license.
  • Requires travel to other company offices and facilities and to job sites.
  • Applicable industry certification is desirable (CCNA), (CCNP), (Nortel/Avaya CS1K, Business Communications Manager,) or VOIP.

Physical Requirements
  • Lift or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds frequently; up to 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Able to operate tools and equipment applicable to position.

Communication Requirements
Communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing; prepare clear, concise and accurate records and reports.
