General Summary
The EHS&S Department directs the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive environmental, health and safety management system. This position provides technical expertise in execution of a company wide fleet safety and employee safety programs and compliance with regulatory agencies within the Scotts LawnService business unit. The specialist will assure compliance with federal and state and local laws and regulations including OSHA, and the U.S. Department of Transportation. The specialist will confirm compliance with safety rules and programs, analyze accident data, and research, identify, and investigate problems and recommend corrective actions. The position reports to and supports the Manager, SLS EHS. The position is located in Marysville, OH.
Key Work Performed
* Supports the development and implementation of a standardized fleet safety program and the underlying funcitions necessary to ensure vehicular related incidents and compliance issues are minimized and controlled. * Perform data and trend analyses, produce reports, and recommend solutions to minimize risk for vehicular and safety incidents. * Provide technical assistance on incident investigations for associate injuries and vehicular incidents which includes working with outside groups to provide appropriate accident recreation. * Act as a resource to the field to assure our branches are adequately managing and executing EHS programs.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
· BS/BA in a related technical, scientific, or engineering discipline required. · Appropriate certifications desired.
Experience:
· Minimum of three years of EHS experience in service organziation. · Proven experience in implementing change, new ideas and concepts. · Track record of driving results through fact-based analysis and business process implementation. · Demonstrated ability to build lasting relationships and to gain cross-functional alignment for execution. · Proven ability to drive results working through others at various levels within the organization.
Knowledge:
· Working knowledge of applicable health and safety and DOT standards. · Working knowledge of ergonomics, including reducing ergonomic issues. · Working knowledge of facilities and operational procedures. · Working knowledge of data analysis. · Familarity of applicable environmental standards.
Skills and Abilities:
· Demonstrated ability to establish self as a business partner with internal customers to develop and influence Safety, Health, Environmental and Security initiatives. · Ability to foster and develop a cooperative work environment. · Responsive, high quality customer service orientation. · Integrity and ability to handle confidential information. · Skill in auditing/inspecting operations and company procedures. · Ability to develop and implement effective EHS strategies and management systems. · Ability to use sound, prudent and independent judgment. · Ability to work independently and as a member of a team within a shared services model of EHS support. · Able to thrive in dynamic, rapidly changing business environment. · Strong time management, leadership, facilitation, problem solving, communication and decision making skills. · Ability to communicate, produce reports, and work effectively with associates at all levels of the company. · Ability to travel 35% of the time.
