Caliper, A Perkin Elmer Company, is seeking aSenior Mechanical Engineerto work in a cross functional team based environment, developing innovative scientific instrumentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following.

* Responsible for the opto-electro-mechanical design, development and lifecycle management of complex imaging instruments
* Performs relevant analysis (structural, thermal, optical, etc) and modeling of designs.
* Develops “proof of principle” breadboard systems and conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs.
* Uses SolidWorks and Agile in performing design tasks.
* Creates complete documentation packages, which will include part models, assembly models, detail drawings, assembly drawings, commercial part specifications, and Bills of Materials.
* Checks completed documentation for accuracy, thoroughness and manufacturability.
* Performs tolerance studies to assure form, fit and function of related parts and assemblies.
* Confers with team members to identify and resolve design problems.
* Coordinates the purchase or fabrication, of prototype parts.
* Follows phased-gate development process through design, manufacturing transition through commercial release.
Job Requirements :


Required Skills/Experience

* BS Mechanical Engineering or physics 8-10 years experience in the design of opto-electromechanical products
* Demonstrated mastery of SolidWorks, familiar with PDMWorks and Agile Product Lifecycle Management software.
* Familiar with Finite Element Analysis and fluid dynamics
* Experience with technologies used in laboratory instrumentation
* Effective communication skills
* Highly motivated creative thinker with a sense of urgency and a commitment to detailed engineering documentation.
