The Network Engineer, Senior is responsible for providing technical expertise for design, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of LAN/WAN and Optical network systems for WakeMed Health & Hospitals. These duties require a diverse background in design and support of network equipment such as routers, layer 2 & 3 switches, optical switches, firewalls, IPS devices, load balancers, wireless controllers, & network management systems. This position will play a lead role in design, installation and roll out of any new WAN/LAN initiatives as well as ongoing maintenance & technical support. This is a senior level technical position requiring previous hands-on experience & training in Nortel/Avaya/Cisco router and switch technology, along with several years experience in installation, management and troubleshooting of large routed and switched networks and demonstrated mastery of network fundamentals. Duties also include research, testing, and the recommending IT solutions. Ability to perform cost/benefit analysis and develop selection criteria used to evaluate and select new hardware. This position also requires experience, and confidence with protocols like RIP, BGP, OSPF, VoIP systems, wireless 802.11a,b,g,n network security concepts, and VPN technology & remote access.
: Minimum of seven years of experience in troubleshooting, configuration and support of LAN/WAN, & wireless networks, including enterprise class Layer 3 core switches, and Layer 2 distribution switches required. Specific experience required in design of large network systems, solid background and knowledge of Layer 1 through Layer 4 network topologies, concepts and protocols, including but not limited to Ethernet, TCP/IP, wireless & WAN protocols, skilled network troubleshooting including performance tuning, sniffer decoding, and experience resolving slow response issues with demonstrated experience ordering and troubleshooting WAN telco circuits. Experience with optical switches and working experience in a large medical center environment required.
: Four year college degree or 2 year degree with equivalent experience required.
: CISSP or other security certification is helpful.
