Network Engineer
EPB has an immediate opening for a Network Engineer.
The main responsibilities of the Network Engineer in the Network Operations Department are to monitor and maintain network systems and services. The Network Engineer will also be responsible for improving EPB's operations by identifying opportunities to improve systems and processes used to monitor the network and serve customers.
The Individual Must:
Monitor all aspects of the legacy and GPON network (nodes, heaedend, video, ONT's, IPC's, substation network).
Initiate proper response for issues that occur on the network.
Resolve calls/issues from residential customers that cannot be resolved by the technical customer support group.
Resolve issues from business customers calling for technical support.
Resolve issues from crews working in the field to install and maintain service to customers.
Manage networks during periods of planned maintenance.
Monitor and initiate corrective action for EPB's video system.
Communicate with other departments and customers regarding disposition and status of trouble.
Identify and communicate noticeable problem trends and troubleshoot to find solutions.
Must be able to work overtime as needed.
Provides complex, high level technical support for network systems, and carries out novel and/or complex assignments requiring the development of new and/or improved techniques and procedures.
Utilize software and hardware diagnostic tools to identify, diagnose and repair complex problems and factors affecting network performance.
Direct and perform all necessary audits to ensure service levels are sustained, systems are optimized and not compromised.
Develop network documentation, including diagrams, Standard Operating Procedures and work instructions.
Must be able to work 2nd or 3rd shift and other hours as needed to sustain a 24/7 operation.
Provides project management of technical staff in the implementation, installation, configuration, and technical support of network architecture; coordinates projects with other departments and external organizations.
Education and/ or Experience
The successful candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in a related technical field is preferred; must have a strong background in electronics and communications equipment; must have strong computer skills including experience with hardware and with software including Windows, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Office products; must have the capability to learn and become proficient in other business software systems utilized at EPB; must be task-focused and capable of accepting interruptions, prioritizing changes, and completing tasks in a timely and detail oriented manner; excellent analytical, troubleshooting and problems solving skills required; excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation and time management skills are required.
